Roof Replacement for a Vietnam Veteran

Roof Replacement for a Vietnam Veteran

In April 2023, Bachman’s Roofing, Building & Remodeling Inc. replaced the existing roof of War Veteran, Carl Tatum. Mr. Tatum was a machine gun operator in the Vietnam War and proudly fought for this country. During Carl’s transition to civilian life, he faced many obstacles, both internal and external. Leaving the military can be one of the most challenging life changes anyone can experience. Many deal with mental health challenges like Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and physical ailments from their time in active duty.  While on disability, Mr. Tatum found himself struggling with his finances, and on top of everything, his roof was in bad condition and leaking in several areas.

Thomas McDonald, business owner of J. Dog Junk Removal and fellow veteran, reached out to the Bachman’s team to coordinate a roof replacement for Mr. Tatum. The team here at Bachman’s was moved by Mr. Tatum’s story and replaced the roof for him for free. We know this is not an isolated incident, many veterans struggle when returning to civilian life. We love when we can give back to people in our community. Carl Tatum also received financial assistance from the Veterans Coalition of Pennsylvania (VCOP). The VCOP was established to help Veterans and their families by partnering with local, state, and federal agencies to assist with reintegration, career development, mentoring, housing, and other necessities.
